For pilgrims from Greater Manchester and the North West

Umrah Packages from Manchester

Manchester is one of the few UK airports with direct flights to Jeddah. Tell us whether you want to start in Makkah or Madinah, and our team in Makkah arranges your hotels, transfers and ziyarat around your flights.

With direct flights from Manchester, many pilgrims want no further connections once they land. Book a private transfer from Jeddah Airport to Makkah, then travel on with our Makkah to Madinah transport by car, GMC, Hiace or coach for larger groups.

Umrah from Manchester, Arranged in Saudi Arabia

Our team is based in Makkah, and we arrange the Saudi side of your Umrah: hotels in Makkah and Madinah, airport transfers, transport between the two holy cities, ziyarat and practical guidance.

Our packages cover your arrangements in Saudi Arabia: hotels, transport, ziyarat and guidance. Most UK pilgrims book their own flights, and we plan everything around their arrival and departure times. If you would like help with flight tickets, ask us on WhatsApp.

We don’t have an office in Manchester. Families from Longsight, Cheetham Hill, Levenshulme, Rusholme and towns such as Oldham, Rochdale and Bolton plan with us directly over WhatsApp or by email.

Flying to Saudi Arabia from Manchester

  • Manchester Airport (MAN): direct flights to Jeddah, taking around six and a half hours. Flights to Madinah usually involve one stop.
  • Getting there: the airport has its own railway station and Metrolink tram stop, reachable from across Greater Manchester and the wider North West.
  • Book early for holidays: direct flights in school holidays and near Ramadan often fill first, so it helps to book flights early and send us your dates as soon as they are set.
  • Check before you book: routes and schedules change, so check the current options when you book.
  • Ihram on the plane: If you are travelling to Jeddah for Umrah, make sure you are in ihram before your flight crosses the miqat. The timing depends on your route, so check with your airline and ask a qualified scholar if you are unsure. Do not assume you can wait until landing in Jeddah. See our guide to Umrah rituals and duas for more on the miqat and ihram. For any other religious question, message us on WhatsApp, even if you are not booking with us. We reply individually, in the light of the Quran and Sunnah, following Hanafi fiqh.

Start in Makkah or in Madinah?

With a direct flight to Jeddah, most pilgrims go straight to Makkah and perform Umrah first. In that case you need to be in ihram before your flight crosses the miqat.

Some families prefer to begin in Madinah, rest after the journey, and travel to Makkah later. If you plan to start in Madinah, ask a qualified scholar where you should enter ihram for your journey to Makkah. Tell us which order you prefer and we will plan hotels and road transport to match.

If you would like to pray in the Rawdah at Masjid an-Nabawi, you need a free permit for a set time slot, booked through the official Nusuk app or website. Slots can fill quickly, so check availability as soon as your Madinah dates are confirmed.

Getting to Manchester Airport for Your Umrah Flight

The direct Jeddah flight currently leaves from Terminal 2, but terminals can change, so check your booking before you set off. For most families, the hardest part of departure day is getting elderly parents, children and heavy bags to the right place in good time.

  • Being dropped off: the drop-off zones at Terminals 2 and 3 are charged by the minute, and the charge must be paid online by midnight the next day. The free drop-off area at JetParks 1 has a free shuttle bus to the terminals that runs 24 hours a day and takes about six minutes, so allow extra time if you have a lot of luggage. Blue Badge holders can drop off on the terminal forecourt free of charge.
  • Train or tram: Manchester Airport station sits between Terminals 2 and 3, about a ten-minute walk from Terminal 2. Trains run from early morning until after midnight, but not all night on every route, and tram hours are shorter. For an early flight, check the first train or tram from your area before you rely on it.
  • When to arrive: Manchester Airport suggests arriving up to three hours before a long-haul flight. Check in online if your airline allows it, and follow your airline’s own check-in deadlines.
  • Hand luggage: the 100ml limit on liquids still applies at Manchester security. Keep your ihram clothing, essential medicines and prescriptions in your hand luggage. Our Umrah packing checklist covers the rest.
  • Wheelchair or walking help: request assistance through your airline at least 48 hours before your flight, and pre-book any wheelchair or mobility aid with them, giving its size and weight. If you miss that deadline, go to an assistance reception point in the check-in hall. For wheelchairs and carts at the two Harams, see our guide to Umrah for elderly pilgrims.
  • Prayer and wudu: Terminal 2 has a multi-faith prayer room before security and another in the departure lounge after security, both open 24 hours, with wudu facilities on both sides of security. Many pilgrims put on their ihram clothing at home or at the airport so they are ready well before the flight reaches the miqat.

Charges, timetables and airport rules change, so check Manchester Airport’s website before you travel. The details above were checked in November 2026.

Landing in Jeddah on a Flight from Manchester

After the direct flight you may be tired and already in ihram, with Umrah still ahead of you. A few things arranged before you leave Manchester make the arrival much easier:

  • Meningitis vaccination: Saudi Arabia requires Umrah pilgrims aged one and over to have a meningococcal ACWY vaccine at least 10 days before arrival, with a certificate showing the vaccine name, type and date. Book it early at a travel clinic or pharmacy and keep the certificate in your hand luggage. See the UK government’s pilgrimage advice.
  • Share your flight details: send us your flight number, arrival time and Jeddah terminal once your flights are booked, and message us on WhatsApp straight away if your flight is delayed or changed.
  • Keep your phone working: save our WhatsApp number and the pickup details from your confirmation. Roaming charges from UK networks can be high in Saudi Arabia, so check your tariff before you fly or plan to buy a local SIM or eSIM.
  • Tell us what you are carrying: the number of suitcases, wheelchairs and pushchairs, and whether you need a child seat (subject to confirmation), so the vehicle has enough space for everyone.
  • Plan for your arrival time: depending on the day, direct flights from Manchester can land in Jeddah late at night or early in the morning. Decide before you fly whether elderly relatives or children will rest at the hotel before Umrah, and if you land in the morning, ask us to check early check-in with your hotel, as it is not always available.
  • Money for the first few hours: many places accept cards, but it helps to carry some Saudi riyals and to tell your bank you are travelling.
  • If you cannot find your driver: stay in the arrivals hall, message us on WhatsApp and wait for us to confirm the driver’s details. Do not go with anyone whose details have not been confirmed to you.

For vehicle options and what happens on arrival, see our Jeddah Airport transfers page.

Flying Home to Manchester

  • Your transfer to the airport: send us your departure time and hotel checkout time, and we plan your transfer from Makkah or Madinah with time for traffic and check-in. If your flight is late in the day, ask your hotel in advance about late checkout or storing your luggage.
  • Zamzam water: airlines usually accept Zamzam only in approved, sealed containers of up to 5 litres per passenger, carried separately from your suitcase, and the rules can differ between airlines and airports. Check your airline’s current rules before you buy.
  • Baggage weight: gifts and Zamzam can quickly take you over your allowance. Check your allowance and arrange any extra baggage with your airline before you fly home.
  • Being collected at Manchester: picking up passengers in a drop-off zone can lead to a £100 charge, so ask whoever is collecting you to use the Terminal 2 pick-up area or a car park.

School Holidays Across Greater Manchester

Each of the ten Greater Manchester councils publishes its own school term dates, and academies may set their own. A family in Manchester and relatives in Oldham or Bolton may not have the same half-term, so check every school before planning a joint trip. Christmas, Easter and the half-terms book up early, especially near Ramadan.

For 2026–27, Manchester City Council’s dates for most of its schools put February half-term from 15 to 19 February 2027 and the Easter break from 5 to 16 April 2027, with Good Friday (26 March) and Easter Monday (29 March) also closed. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, with Eid al-Fitr in Saudi Arabia expected around 9 or 10 March, depending on the moon sighting, so February half-term falls in the first half of Ramadan, while the Easter break starts about four weeks after Eid. See Manchester City Council’s term dates.

For help choosing dates, see our guide to the best time for Umrah, or our seasonal and Ramadan Umrah packages.

Groups from Greater Manchester

Mosque and family groups from Manchester often arrive together on the same direct flight. Send us the flight details and group size, and we arrange airport transfers, shared hotels, transport and ziyarat for everyone in one quote. If some members fly on another day, we arrange their transfers separately. See our group Umrah packages and family Umrah packages.

We also arrange Umrah for pilgrims from other UK cities, including Birmingham, Bradford, London, Leicester, Glasgow and Blackburn. For an overview, see our Umrah packages from the UK.

Visa Information

Before you book, check which visa route applies to you. Requirements depend on your nationality and where you live, and they can change, so always confirm the latest information through official Saudi sources before you travel. For more detail on the official routes, see our Umrah visa guide.
