For pilgrims from Birmingham and the West Midlands

Umrah Packages from Birmingham

Birmingham’s direct flight to Jeddah is suspended for now, but your Umrah doesn’t have to wait. Whichever route you choose, our team in Makkah arranges your hotels, transfers and ziyarat around your arrival.

Umrah from Birmingham, Arranged in Saudi Arabia

Our team is based in Makkah, and we arrange the Saudi side of your Umrah: hotels in Makkah and Madinah, airport transfers, transport between the two holy cities, ziyarat and practical guidance.

Our packages cover your arrangements in Saudi Arabia: hotels, transport, ziyarat and guidance. Most UK pilgrims book their own flights, and we plan everything around their arrival and departure times. If you would like help with flight tickets, ask us on WhatsApp.

We don’t have an office in Birmingham. Families from Sparkbrook, Small Heath, Alum Rock, Bordesley Green and across the West Midlands plan with us directly over WhatsApp or by email.

Families from Birmingham often travel with grandparents and young children, so the road journeys matter. See how our Jeddah Airport transfers and hotel-to-hotel Makkah to Madinah transport work, including larger vehicles for extended families.

Flying to Saudi Arabia from Birmingham

Most pilgrims fly into Jeddah, the closest major airport to Makkah, while some begin their trip in Madinah.

  • Birmingham Airport (BHX): a direct service to Jeddah has run in some seasons, but it is suspended for now. Flights from Birmingham currently involve one stop. The airport is linked to Birmingham International railway station.
  • Getting to the airport: direct trains from Birmingham New Street reach Birmingham International in about 10 minutes, with up to four trains an hour, and the free Air-Rail Link connects the station with the terminal from 03:30 to 00:30.
  • Manchester (MAN): around two hours by road, with direct flights to Jeddah.
  • London Heathrow (LHR): around two hours by road, with direct flights to Jeddah.
  • Check before you book: routes and schedules change, and the Birmingham service may return, so check the current options when you book.
  • Ihram on the plane: If you are travelling to Jeddah for Umrah, make sure you are in ihram before your flight crosses the miqat. The timing depends on your route, so check with your airline and ask a qualified scholar if you are unsure. Do not assume you can wait until landing in Jeddah. See our guide to Umrah rituals and duas for more on the miqat and ihram. For any other religious question, message us on WhatsApp, even if you are not booking with us. We reply individually, in the light of the Quran and Sunnah, following Hanafi fiqh.

Waiting for the Direct Flight, or Travelling Now?

If your dates are fixed, such as a school holiday, it is usually better not to wait for a route to return. Compare a connection from Birmingham with a direct flight from Manchester or Heathrow. A connection keeps the airport close to home; a direct flight means one flight and no change of plane, which can suit elderly relatives.

A connection can also change your landing time. Send us your final itinerary and we plan your airport transfer around it. If your flight is delayed, message us on WhatsApp as soon as you know and we will rearrange your pickup.

Travelling with Elderly Parents or Young Children

Long walks, crowds and heat are often harder for older relatives and small children than the flight itself. A few choices made before you book can reduce unnecessary walking and waiting:

  • Hotel location: a hotel closer to Masjid al-Haram or Masjid an-Nabawi usually means less walking each day, though it often costs more. Ask us about a hotel’s location and the route to the Haram before you confirm it.
  • The right vehicle: tell us about any mobility aids, such as a folding wheelchair or walker, and how much luggage you have, so a vehicle with enough space can be arranged. We do not offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles with ramps or lifts. Child seats are subject to confirmation.
  • Help at the airport: if a relative uses a wheelchair, we can arrange for someone to meet you at the airport and help them through to your vehicle.
  • Rest on the road: rest or refreshment stops can be requested on the journey between Makkah and Madinah.
  • Ziyarat at an easier pace: visits can be planned around prayer times and spread over more than one day.

If this is your first Umrah, or your parents’, you can ask for a professional Umrah guide to accompany you during the rites. Our Umrah guide also explains each stage, and our guide to Umrah for elderly pilgrims covers practical planning in more detail.

Knowing Exactly What You Have Booked

Unclear inclusions and unexpected extra costs are among the most common worries when booking Umrah. Before you travel, we confirm your arrangements in writing on WhatsApp: hotel names, check-in and check-out dates, room type, vehicle type, pickup times and any ziyarat. Check these details carefully and ask about anything that is not clear.

You choose how close to the Haram you want to stay, based on your budget, and the hotel agreed in your confirmation is the hotel you stay in.

You do not pay for everything before you leave. If you ask us to arrange flight tickets or a visa application, these are paid before travel. Transport and ziyarat need no deposit and are usually paid when the service starts. Hotel bookings may need an advance payment, decided case by case; where one is not needed, you can pay the hotel when you arrive and check in.

Your quote covers only the services listed in it. It is valid for 3 days and subject to availability when you confirm, and hotel bookings follow each hotel’s own cancellation rules. For payment and cancellation details, see our terms and conditions.

Birmingham School Holidays

Birmingham City Council publishes term dates for its community schools, but many academies and multi-academy trusts set their own. Families with children at different schools often find the dates do not match, so check every school before you choose. Christmas, Easter and the half-terms book up early, especially near Ramadan.

Birmingham City Council’s 2026–27 dates put February half-term from 15 to 19 February 2027, during Ramadan, and the Easter break from 26 March to 9 April 2027: spring term ends on Thursday 25 March and summer term starts on 12 April. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, with Eid al-Fitr in Saudi Arabia expected around 9 or 10 March, depending on the moon sighting, so the Easter break begins a little over two weeks after Eid. See Birmingham City Council’s school term dates.

See our seasonal Umrah packages.

Groups from Across the West Midlands

Mosque and family groups often bring together relatives from Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry and Dudley. If members book different flights or airports, we arrange a separate transfer for each arrival, then shared hotels, transport and ziyarat in one quote. See our group Umrah packages.

We also arrange Umrah for pilgrims from other UK cities, including Manchester, Bradford, London, Leicester, Glasgow and Blackburn. For an overview, see our Umrah packages from the UK.

Visa Information

Before you book, check which visa route applies to you. Requirements depend on your nationality and where you live, and they can change, so always confirm the latest information through official Saudi sources before you travel. For more detail on the official routes, see our Umrah visa guide.

Health Checks Before You Travel

Saudi Arabia requires Umrah pilgrims to have a valid meningococcal ACWY vaccination certificate, received at least 10 days before arrival (GOV.UK). Requirements can change from season to season, so check the latest guidance on TravelHealthPro and book an appointment with your GP surgery or a travel clinic well before your flight.

  • Bring enough of your regular medication for the whole trip, plus extra in case your return is delayed.
  • Summer temperatures in Saudi Arabia can exceed 50°C. Drink water regularly and avoid long periods in direct sun.
  • Tawaf and Sa’i involve a lot of walking. Wear comfortable footwear and allow time to rest.

This is general information, not medical advice. If you or a relative has a health condition, speak to your GP before you travel.
