For pilgrims from Glasgow and across Scotland

Umrah Packages from Glasgow

There is no direct flight from Glasgow to Saudi Arabia, so Umrah from Scotland means a connecting journey. Our team in Makkah arranges your hotels, transfers and ziyarat around your arrival, so the Saudi side is ready when you land.

Umrah from Glasgow, Arranged in Saudi Arabia

Our team is based in Makkah, and we arrange the Saudi side of your Umrah: hotels in Makkah and Madinah, airport transfers, transport between the two holy cities, ziyarat and practical guidance.

Our packages cover your arrangements in Saudi Arabia: hotels, transport, ziyarat and guidance. Most UK pilgrims book their own flights, and we plan everything around their arrival and departure times. If you would like help with flight tickets, ask us on WhatsApp.

We don’t have an office in Glasgow. Families from Pollokshields, Govanhill, the West End and towns across Scotland plan with us directly over WhatsApp or by email.

Pilgrims from Scotland usually connect through another airport, so arrival times vary. Send us your final flight into Jeddah and we will plan your Jeddah Airport to Makkah transfer around it, along with your private transport from Makkah to Madinah.

Flying to Saudi Arabia from Scotland

Most pilgrims fly into Jeddah, the closest major airport to Makkah, while some begin their trip in Madinah with a Madinah Airport transfer.

  • Glasgow Airport (GLA): the closest airport for most of the city, reached by the Glasgow Airport Express (service 500) from the city centre. There is no direct flight to Saudi Arabia, so every journey involves at least one stop.
  • Edinburgh Airport (EDI): around an hour away by road. Also a connecting journey, but worth comparing if it offers better times for your dates.
  • Flying south first: some pilgrims travel to Manchester or London, by train or a short UK flight, to take a direct flight to Jeddah. Our Manchester and London pages cover those airports.
  • Check before you book: routes and schedules change, so check the current options when you book. The details on this page were checked in November 2026.
  • Ihram on the plane: If you are travelling to Jeddah for Umrah, make sure you are in ihram before your flight crosses the miqat. The timing depends on your route, so check with your airline and ask a qualified scholar if you are unsure. Do not assume you can wait until landing in Jeddah. If you have a long connection, you may prefer to change during the stopover. Keep your ihram in your hand luggage, as checked bags can be delayed on a connection; see our Umrah packing checklist. See our guide to Umrah rituals and duas for more on the miqat and ihram.
  • Religious questions: every pilgrim’s situation is different, so if your question is not answered in our guides, message us on WhatsApp, even if you are not booking with us. We reply individually, in the light of the Quran and Sunnah, following Hanafi fiqh.

Choosing Your Connection

With a connection, the trip from Glasgow to Makkah can take most of a day, and the stopover matters as much as the fare. A single, shorter connection is usually easier for elderly parents and young children, while a long overnight layover can leave everyone tired before Umrah begins. Compare the total journey time, not just the price, and keep all your flights on one booking, so the airline can rebook you if a delay makes you miss a connection.

If a parent needs a wheelchair or help through the airport, ask your airline for special assistance at least 48 hours before you fly, and check that it covers your connecting airport as well as Glasgow and Jeddah. For help at the two Harams, see our guide to Umrah for elderly pilgrims. Tell us about any mobility needs when you ask for a quote, and we can suggest hotels in Makkah and Madinah with a shorter walk to the Haram.

Send us your final itinerary and we plan your airport transfer around your landing time. If a connection is delayed, message us on WhatsApp as soon as you know and we will rearrange your pickup. After a long journey, a lighter first day, with ziyarat later in the stay, often helps.

Planning Around Scottish School Holidays

Scottish school holidays follow a different pattern from England. Glasgow City Council schools usually have an October week, around two weeks at Christmas, a short February break, a spring break around Easter and a summer holiday that starts in late June. Exact dates vary each year and between councils, so check your own school’s dates.

The October week, Christmas and the February break fall in Makkah’s cooler months, when walking to and from the Haram is usually easier than in summer.

For 2026–27, Glasgow City Council schools are on Christmas holiday from 21 December 2026 to 4 January 2027 (closing early on 18 December), the February mid-term break is Monday 15 to Wednesday 17 February 2027 (the 17th is an in-service day), the spring break runs from 5 to 16 April 2027, with Good Friday (26 March) and Easter Monday (29 March) also off, and schools close for the summer on 25 June 2027. The February break falls during Ramadan, which is expected to begin around 8 February, and the spring break starts about four weeks after Eid al-Fitr, expected around 9 or 10 March in Saudi Arabia, depending on the moon sighting. See Glasgow City Council’s school term dates.

Groups from Glasgow and Across Scotland

Umrah from Glasgow is often a family or mosque-group trip, sometimes with relatives joining from Edinburgh, Dundee or Aberdeen on different flights. We arrange a separate transfer for each arrival, then shared hotels, transport and ziyarat in one quote. See our group Umrah packages, or our family Umrah packages if you are travelling as one household.

We also arrange Umrah for pilgrims from other UK cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford, London, Leicester and Blackburn. For an overview, see our Umrah packages from the UK.

Visa Information

Before you book, check which visa route applies to you. Requirements depend on your nationality and where you live, and they can change, so always confirm the latest information through official Saudi sources before you travel. For more detail on the official routes, see our Umrah visa guide.

Many Glasgow families travel with parents or grandparents who hold a Pakistani passport. Their visa route can differ from a British passport holder’s, depending on their UK residence status, and it may take longer, so check every traveller’s passport before you book flights. Whatever passport they hold, we can help with the visa and apply for it on their behalf. Every pilgrim aged one and over also needs a meningococcal ACWY (meningitis) vaccine at least 10 days before arriving in Saudi Arabia, so book it early with your GP practice or a pharmacy. See the UK government’s pilgrimage travel advice.
